Usually people are interested in acquainting John and Sherlock when they're younger, children even. This story is the exact opposite: John and Sherlock meet after Reichenbach Fall. Under difficult circumstances, in a closed environment. Sherlock's already more closed off than in Canon, he never had John to rely on and care for. Still, it's so IC you have to like it.
