Curved Space

Title: Curved Space
Author: taylorpotato
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: Lestrade/Sherlock
Warning: NC-17, genderbender, slash/het
Length: Short
Status: Completed

Things can be difficult when you don't fit into a neat little box of gender or sexuality. Some days, everything is fine. Other days, it feels like Sherlock has woken up in the wrong body. They cope with it as best they can, perhaps by drowning in an opiate high more often than they should. But there's always the work. Puzzles to solve. Ways to keep busy. There's also Greg Lestrade. Who Sherlock is definitely not dating. At least, not on purpose.

AO3

The gender issue is well-described, and I consider this important and educational enough to rec it. No, you are not bombarded with facts. It's more like an impression, a "human story."

Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Mycroft, Mommy Holmes
Warning: NC-17, slash, genderbender (trans!Sherlock)
Length: Medium

When John looked at him, Sherlock felt whole, felt like he was who he was meant to be. Not a freak, an oddity, or a monster in-between.

AO3

This story is a delicate approach to transgender issues.

A Study in Lullabies

Title: A Study in Lullabies
Author: shooting-stetsons
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, OMC (baby), Jim/Sherlock, Mycroft, Lestrade
Warning: PG-13, genderbender( fem!Sherlock), child abuse (Sherlock)
Length: Novella
Status: Ongoing

In which Sherlock Holmes is a woman with an infant son.

Read it. Now.
Sherlock with a child is something that has been done before, but not often. Here, John knowingly enters the strange relationship they develop. From the beginning, he suspects that he will end up  as a father without actually "having gotten" some. Yet, he moves in.
You really feel the love between them, and the love they feel for the baby.

If You Can't Move Heaven, Raise Hell

Title: If You Can't Move Heaven, Raise Hell
Author: splix
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Ian Adler/Sherlock, Ian Adler/John
Warning: NC-17, slash, non-con, BDSM
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

All John Watson wants is a peaceful fortnight's holiday in Cornwall. Fate has other plans.

Set in a monastry. John's and Sherlock's interactions were very natural and the case was interesting. I didn't mind their relationship to take form in the last chapter - this isn't about them, it's about the case and them sorting out their feelings. I don't know why Irene had to become Ian but I didn't mind.

Perspectives on a Singular Theme

Title: Perspectives on a Singular Theme
Author: branwyn
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: Sherlock, Mycroft, Lestrade
Warning: PG, mention of non-con, mention of drug abuse, genderbender
Length: Short
Status: Ongoing Series

Sometimes it seems to Mycroft that Sherlock is racing the world to destroy herself before it can destroy her.

At AO3

Let's face it: the title's nothing special, the main idea is no break-through, the writing is not especially captivating.
And yet I really, really like this. I adore it. It is a mix of Sherlock's life in slices and tells a story without stating facts. It merely exists for its own sake. For the setting. There are no new developments, there's no hard case in there, there is no real shipping. The author seems to have dedicated this story to the setting itself. That's special enough about this series. Plenty.

The Unexpected Key

Characters: John/Sherlock, Mycroft, Lestrade, OFC, Sally
Warning: NC-17, het, genderbender, AU
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

Miss Sherlock Holmes objects most strenuously to the very idea of finding a husband. Instead of accepting that she must, she sets out to ensure she will never have to.
John Watson, invalided home and recovering from a nasty bout of enteric fever, never thought to find anyone interested in him ever again, let alone someone like Sherlock.

At AO3

Definitely a must-read. I liked the Victorian setting, Sherlock's bloody stubbornness and Mycroft's desperate act. Yes, if Sherlock was female, if they were living in the Victorian Age, then it would have happened like this. If it hadn't... shame it wouldn't have XD

Diets Are Made to Be Cheated, as Are Marriages to Work

Title: Diets Are Made to Be Cheated, as  Are marriages to Work

Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock,

Sherlock Holmes is a strong woman, but love can bring the strongest to their knees. This is precisely why she is scared to fall in love.

At AO3

Another fem!Sherlock story. Guess I'll go through the ones I can find, not like it's such a popular theme.
This one shows snippets of the "episodes", so it's kind of an alternate timeline to the actual series. And of course Sherlock returns from the dead.

Sherlock has been acting stranger than usual. She's been throwing up at crime scenes and leaving the flat at strange hours, not telling John where she's been going or why. John's worried and begins to wonder if their friendship will survive whatever Sherlock is hiding from him. And Sherlock knows that she won't be able to hide her secret for very long.....

At AO3

I liked Sherlock in here. She's just.... BAMF, and reckless, and yet caring, and intriguing... yeah.
It's not exactly the genderbender part that I loved about this, it's rather the her depiction. It sends just this lovely message: no matter which gender, Sherlock will always be... Sherlock.

What Comes Undone

Title: What Comes Undone
Author: Songlin
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, OFC (Rosalind)
Warning: NC-17, het, pregnancy, genderbender, self-harm/injury (Rosalind), mention of femslash
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

Sherlock Holmes was not the kind of woman a man brought home to meet the family. She wasn't even the kind of woman most men brought home, full stop. But that never seemed to stop John.

At AO3

A cute story about fem!Sherlock and John living together, falling in love together and... staying together.
Pregnant!Sherlock was nice, too, bitchy, loving and yet brilliant.

The Adventure of the Consulting Woman

Title: The Adventure of the Consulting Woman

Warning: NC-17, slash, mention of abuse, genderbender
Length: Medium (40.000+)

"So the plan is, you have until Saturday night to make that," he pointed at Sherlock, "look and act convincingly like a woman, so she can go and be a damsel in distress and trap a serial murderer. Have I got that right?"

The Adventure of the Consulting Woman at FF

Genderbender - a kind of fic I usually do not read. Why? Because rarely authors manage to make it seem "interesting" or not out of character. In The Adventure of the Consulting Woman Sherlock dresses as a woman for the sake of a case. And isn't there anything more canon-compliant than him doing everything possible to solve a case?
Truly, you do not have to like genderbender to love this fanfiction. And of course a great Johnlock fic, not fluffy, not sappy. Full of humor, of wit and hilarious scenes.
