A Study in Strays

Title: A Study in Strays
Author: philalethia
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John, Sherlock
Warning: PG-13, animal!Sherlock
Length: Medium
Status: Completed

John Watson moves to 221B Baker Street. Unfortunately, the flat's already occupied.

Sherlock as a cat is rather cute. As well as John as an owner. The magical part remains unexplained but it is fine that way. Let's just call it magic realism.

Possessions

Title: Possessions
Author: lostwithoutmydoctor
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Mycroft, Jim, Mrs. Hudson
Warning: NC-17, AU, vampire, animal ( bat, cat), character death (John, John Watson)
Length: Novel
Status: Completed

Sherlock Holmes was a bored, socially isolated vampire living in London, and John Watson was just a bloke looking for a flatshare after returning home from a war that left him a wounded, broken man. Lets all take a moment to thank Mike Stamford for bringing them together. Maybe, just maybe, they'll survive together instead of fading away apart.

AO3

I loved the first part, the second part was a bit mushy. Still, one of the best vampire fics out there. Deserves to be rec'ed.

The Beast of Baskerville

Title: The Beast of Baskerville
Author: Mildredandbobbin
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Harry, Molly, Jim
Warning: NC-17, slash
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

15th Century/fairy tale AU. An invalided John Watson comes to the isolated village of Baskerville seeking shelter with his sister, only to find himself embroiled in a grisly murder. As the villagers point to a local werewolf legend, the odd but brilliant friar, Brother Sherlock, disagrees, and soon he and John are on the the trail of a very human murderer. As the killer takes another victim, fear and suspicion grips the village, culminating in the arrival of Inquisitor, Friar James Moriarty, who proves more terrible than any supernatural beast could ever be.

Sherlock as a brother :)
Yes, this is very nice. Especially since, as religion is a science in itself, Sherlock takes his job very seriously but doesn't just preach. He's very in character. Religion is his science, he practices, he is faithful but sticks to his own rules.
John's grief over Sherlock's apparent death also is interesting to read. Overall, I was very pleased with this novella.

Occam's Razor

Title: Occam's Razor
Author: RaeWhit
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Snape/Harry, Draco/Harry
Warning: NC-17, slash, BDSM, post-war, horcrux
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

Two years after the end of the war, only desperation could make Harry seek out the help of a one-time enemy.

At AO3

Finally. This is the story which introduced me to RaeWhit almost two years ago. Since then, I've been in love with it. RaeWhit here shows again how to introduce subtle hints - the actual turnabout is a surprise, even if you already had some inklings. I was sure that Snape somehow survived but like Harry, I was deceived and believed it was Bat. Drarry and Snarry in one, so basically two for one. Go for it. In my opinion, RaeWhit's best story.

The Snidget

Title: The Snidget
Author: Acid, Sinick
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Snape/Harry, Voldemort
Warning: R, mention of slash, animal, war, school
Length: Medium
Status: Completed

After the Dark Lord's victory, Headmaster Snape is living under a sword's edge, when hope flies in past his shields.

At AO3

Belongs to the classics, definitely.
This story features a good Snape POV. It's not that much of a Snarry, more of a war-time fic with focus on Snape. And that's what I like it for.

What Stays and What Fades Away

Title: What Stays and What Fades Away
Author: chemicaldefect
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, John/Mary, Lestrade/Molly, Sherlock/Irene (off-screen)
Warnings: NC-17, slash, mention of het, murder, drug abuse, mention of suicidal tendencies
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

John thought Mary was his second chance after the events of The Reichenbach Fall. Life has other plans

At AO3

One of the few fics where I accept Mary's presence: I am just.. not fond of her. It clashes with my picture of John. To me, he must be the one doing the courting, the approaching. Doesn't work with him being married. In most Mary fics, Sherlock begins competing with her, and that's just... not my cup of tea. Destroys my image of innocent and oblivious Sherlock XD
Sad but true:

A Thorough Study on the Ordinary Baker Street Fauna

Title: A Thorough Study on the Ordinary Baker Street Fauna

Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock
Warning: PG
Length: Short
Status: Completed

Watson overhears Sherlock confessing his developing feelings towards him. To a replacement skull.

At LJ

Sherlock and his penchant for taking in strays.
While there's not much shipping going on, I consider this a nice "character study". Do I believe this penchant of Sherlock's? Yes, somehow I do.

Scars

Title: Scars
Author: Isis
Fandom: Harry Potter
Warning: NC-17, slash
Length: Short
Status: Completed

Harry and Remus become closer through shared concern over Sirius, who refuses to transform back from his animagus dog form.

Scars

Scars was the first Remus/Harry FF I ever read. Not my usual couple but Isis managed to really sell it to me.  But it's not the pairing that stands out most: it's Sirius' characterization. Why stay a dog? Well, it's much simpler to deal with stress in animal form. But is it healthy?
