Title: Mise en Place
Author: azriona
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Molly, Lestrade, Jim, Harry
Warning: NC-17, slash, AU
Length: Novel
Status: Completed
John Watson had no intentions of taking over the family business, but when he returns from Afghanistan, battered and bruised, and discovers that his sister Harry has run their restaurant into the ground, he doesn't have much choice. There's only one thing that can save the Empire from closing for good – the celebrity star of the BBC series Restaurant Reconstructed, Chef Sherlock Holmes.

Mind-blowing, and how come I have almost no warnings to tag? I don't believe it. Shame on me.
I love Mise en Place. I had no real expectations, even though I know azriona and I liked some of her previous works. Mise en Place has got many elements that "could" work, but also some that made me frown. I mean, seriously, Sherlock as a TV chef? I can see him tearing into people, yes. But I can't see him motivating the staff.
Azriona combines the series and the story by putting in quotes - which make you smile every time, just because you recognize them! I never felt like the AU world was overbearing or too vast to explore. A good AU, definitely.

Pull the Stars from the Sky
Title: Pull the Stars from the Sky
Author: roane
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Jim, Lestrade, Harry, Irene
Warning: NC-17, slash, injury (Irene, Sherlock)
Length: Novella
Status: Ongoing
It’s the fall of 2000, and to help him out after his military career has ended due to injury, John Watson’s sister Harriet gets him a job as US tour manager for rising star of the industrial scene and enfant terrible, Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock’s not long out of rehab and there are plenty of doubts as to whether he’s serious about recovery. Plus, the music industry is shaking in its boots over the Napster mess. All John has to do is keep the money coming in and make sure his star doesn't screw things up. After the army, that should be easy, right?
AO3
A music AU; there aren't that many well-done AUs, so a rec for this work. Its pacing is good. Otherwise, well, enjoyable. Not deep, or very artistic. Not the author's intention. I think it's more of a "light reading". Good for relaxing.

The Hollow Woman
Title: The Hollow Woman
Author: ScopesMonkeyFandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Harry, Mary
Warning: R, character death (Mrs Hudson)
Length: Novella
Status: Completed
Forced to return to London sooner than expected, Sherlock falls into a case too close to home.
At AO3
Oh, this is painful, and joyful, and delightful, and.... you get the picture. XD
I really understand John's pain.
I really understand Sherlock's sudden sense of loneliness.
And that's the most painful constellation ever. Usually, I have a preference - either Sherlock's an ass, or Sherlock's an ass but doesn't deserve the violent anger John basically throws at him. This story combines both sides, and is very considerate of their mindsets. It is only natural that John needs time. It is only natural that while he is mad, he still protects Sherlock from harm. But he also does not forget his own side, he begins to empathize, to realize, but even then he doesn't lose himself in pitying Sherlock. That's why this work is great. I think they are well-depicted.
And thus, I couldn't resist to offer a sneak peak.
"You wanted me to come back," Sherlock commented, and John bristled at the undertone of cool, calculated assessment. Like he was another variable in another case. A reaction that was all too easily understood.
"Yeah, actually, I did," he snapped.
"And now that I'm here, you want me gone."

The Beast of Baskerville
Title: The Beast of Baskerville
Author: Mildredandbobbin
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Harry, Molly, Jim
Warning: NC-17, slash
Length: Novella
Status: Completed
15th Century/fairy tale AU. An invalided John Watson comes to the isolated village of Baskerville seeking shelter with his sister, only to find himself embroiled in a grisly murder. As the villagers point to a local werewolf legend, the odd but brilliant friar, Brother Sherlock, disagrees, and soon he and John are on the the trail of a very human murderer. As the killer takes another victim, fear and suspicion grips the village, culminating in the arrival of Inquisitor, Friar James Moriarty, who proves more terrible than any supernatural beast could ever be.
Sherlock as a brother :)
Yes, this is very nice. Especially since, as religion is a science in itself, Sherlock takes his job very seriously but doesn't just preach. He's very in character. Religion is his science, he practices, he is faithful but sticks to his own rules.
John's grief over Sherlock's apparent death also is interesting to read. Overall, I was very pleased with this novella.

The Small, Shared Things
Title: The Small, Shared Things
Author: anchors
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Harry(/Clara)
Warning: R, slash, mpreg
Length: Novella
Status: Completed
The people who matter do not come into Sherlock's life by droves, but these few are enough. One person - not even a person yet, really; just a few cells - enters it and is enough to change it all. In which Sherlock and John have a baby, and learn what really matters.
At AO3
Universe with pregnancy not bound to the male/female variety.
The follow-up on Sherlock's pregnancy allows the author to show us readers lots of small details, the change of feelings and change of priorities. To me, one of the best pregnancy stories out there, as pregnancy changes a relationship. Not many manage to give insight into this process as well as this one.
