Actually, no, no. Don't judge this because of the description. It's not about all-mighty Sherlock being loved and adored by everybody. He has far too much magic, is anti-social and people mistrust him by default. Sounds better, doesn't it?

"All who fall under your gaze become accused of a silent crime… and I am yet to understand why." -Riddle. Gray!Harry lost in love and misery.

This is the biggest Voldemort/Harry story out there, almost 600 k words. It is dreadful, has no real slash elements (except mentions) and is full of gore, violence and cruelty. A must read for this pairing - and one of the most realistic depictions of this pairing. Tension, ugliness, complications.

A story can be told without the protagonist, a story can be told through the impressions, reports, memories and experiences of others. In the end, the only voice we don't hear is that of the main characters. This is not, naturally, always a good thing.

Character study featuring Asperger Sherlock. As I favor this theory, I really liked this work. Mycroft's voice was rather intriguing, especially during their childhood.

The war is over, but still Severus saves Harry from falling over and over again.  Can they find common ground and fall together?

I admit: not my favorite. I respect this for its unity of effect and superior writing. The themes are just what I like, that's why I gave it a read, but to me, Harry is not an appealing character in here. He lacks the depth I've seen him have in other works. Still, this is classic. No way around it.

Good old Lomonaaeren.
I'll get her other stories up here, too, when I start bringing my recs from my other blog.
For now, another novel-length story, for once without smut. Well, that's cool, her writing is brilliant even without the dirty details.
World in Pieces is especially nice as it combines two essential elements I like in HP fanfictions: Harry and Snape working together, and war-time. The universe travel is another bonus.

Forget Shades of Grey; while it might be PWP, this story has far more depth and shows different shades of BDSM relationships. It is not about a dom getting pleasure by making a sub uncomfortable. This is a far more frank view on it. Even if you are no big fan of BDSM, this can be enjoyable. It is enlightening.

Yeah, suicidal Sherlock. In a way, kind of... realistic? In a way.

Struggling to cope with life after Reichenbach, John is gravely injured during a vicious, apparently motiveless street attack. Convalescing, on Mycroft’s invitation, at the Holmes family seat, John encounters someone entirely unexpected and uncovers an intriguing seventeen year-old mystery. Things hot up as John finds himself battling to work out the solution before James Moriarty’s legacy catches up with him – and also rekindling a love affair that was never really given the chance to blossom.

At AO3

Begins with a sort of flashback, so don't get confused. Actual story starts after Sherlock's 'fall'.

A lovely story which proposes a new idea: Sherlock suffering from multiple personality disorder.
To state it quite bluntly; I really frown upon this notion. I didn't like Sherlock in this story. He was too out of character. Well, strike that: he had just not enough character for me. To me, Sherlock's most established trait is his sharp wit and the snarky humor. Here, he's a bit mild, almost mellow. Some might argue that it's the mental illness, but to me, a story depicting him as mentally ill is well-written when he seems in character.
Much criticism, yet a rec. Because it's not a bad read. Just because I dislike the general idea and the way he was depicted does not mean I cannot see the solid structure of this work.

I thought John lacked the PTSD part too much. Kinda OoC, but Sherlock was nice to read. He was... real, somehow. I just like Polyphony's version of Sherlock, thumbs up.
The murder was not too predictable, though I had a hunch where things were heading early on. The explanation was well-placed with the peak, the conclusion, at the case's turnabout point.

"John could have predicted it, but it's still a shock, Mark's thick fist slamming into the side of that porcelain face. Sherlock hits the ground rather hard. John sees the other two guys crack their knuckles. He knows what happens next, and maybe later Sherlock will be together enough to stagger home alone, if he's lucky."
John's on crutches and off the rugby team. Loner Sherlock is friendless and self-destructive. When John saves Sherlock from getting beaten up, it's the start of a long—and complicated—relationship.

At AO3

Not as dramatic as it could be but depicts their friendship quite nicely. There's no real slash, just kissing - and actually in this story their friendship is more important than them having a go at each other. Mostly gen, and a good read. I usually despise stories showing them in high school. This one was good. Not brilliant but good.

A story in which John and Sherlock struggle to become what they've always been, Mycroft interferes, and an unforeseen obstacle climbs out of the rubble to threaten everything that they've all worked for.

At AO3

This is actually quite a complex relationship. I like my Sherlock hurt, somewhat in need of guidance, emotional but completely overwhelmed because he so is not used to emotions. This is actually... not my cup of tea. Well, it isn't, and yet it is. Sherlock is jumpy, and still caught up in the past three years. He has killed, he has been injured, he has encounter more trouble than he could deal with. John's different. He has accepted that he needs Sherlock, and taken him back. Sherlock though shows little to no development in his affection for John. He simply likes him... because he's still there. Interesting characterization.

Well-written merge of dimensions. I rather liked the new approach. What if Sherlock never got clean? What would have become of John? Without a flatmate, without danger to keep him alive? This story actually has a sequel. It is Sherlock/Irene and I had a look but won't rec it here. It is not necessary to have read the prequel to understand The Sign of the Four. Still, here the link: What He Likes
What He Likes is angsty, full of drug use and shows us Irene waivering, unsure, conflicted. While it's a nice read, I particularly didn't like the fact that Sherlock goes back to Baker Street where there's no space for him anymore.

I am actually kind of thankful: solojones managed to keep the John/Mary down to a minimum. She's actually not important - except, to give a psychological inside. Sherlock's character study in here is mainly achieved by her input and John's observations, fuelled by her input, of course. This made her actually a key person. I hate stories where the author puts her in for Canon's sake instead of for the story's sake

Season III

While browsing for information on Season III (I've been soooo lazy and actually forgot to check for some time) I stumbled across another article about Amanda's role.
So, second episode confirmed to be The Sign of Three.

Makes me really anxious.

Please, Amanda, be Harry. Harriet. John's wonderful sister which .... I don't care, comes between John and Sherlock because she saw how hard Sherlock's death hit her brother. Now she's mad at Sherlock or... I don't care. Be Harry. Or Clara. Clara's fine, too.

Nothing against het couples, and even as a slasher I know that Johnlock will never be more than headcanon. Yet I am completely against Amanda being Mary. It just... messes up everything. Not only the entire bromance in there, but also it would make the scripts sooo predictable. One thing I valued about Sherlock was that everything is unpredictable (well, fan-service excluded, 'I am Sherlocked'). Why can't Mary/Amanda be Harry's wife? That would be interesting.
Because... come on. Is there anything more predictable than choosing John's (Martin's) girlfriend for the role of his lover?
If Amanda is Mary, and Mary is in a relationship with John, I will be severely disappointed.

Whining/Ranting End.

This is... yucks. No, not the story! Rather the murder and the case. I quite liked Sherlock in here, though John got on my nerves.
