Title: Who Shot Sherlock Holmes?

Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John, Sherlock, Lestrade, Mycroft
Warning: PG-13, injury (Sherlock), drug abuse(Sherlock)
Length: Short
Status: Completed

After Lestrade gets a call that Sherlock was shot in his Baker Street flat, he and John race to try and put the pieces together and solve the crime.

Why do I love this?
Well, not because of Sherlock, or the story, I fear. It's because of... Mycroft and Lestrade. The tension between them is palpable. You can almost touch it. Well, there's also the bonus of past!Sherlock and past!Lestrade during the overdose.

Yond Snape

Title: Yond Snape
Author: Svartalfur
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Slughorn/Snape
Warning: NC-17, slash, drug abuse (Snape)
Length: Short
Status: Completed

Slughorn pursues Snape. An account of the burgeoning relationship between two Slytherins on the background of the events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

This story is remarkable in two aspects; Snape is ugly. Inside, outside. Some authors portray him as a victim, some as misunderstood, others as an adult who repents his youthful sins. But some don't. Some authors paint an even uglier picture. This author belongs to the latter. And yet there's beauty in him - he feels like anybody else, he suffers in his spite. Slughorn is similiar in character, but loneliness has formed him differently. He sees Snape; and can't stop looking.
It's sad in some aspects. Both are in need of somebody, but they are too destructive together. Not right for each other.

Pt II (In Case It Goes Missing)

I love this one - it's just... funny, and clever, and like the parfumes, it triggers memories. You get this soft, warm glowy feeling in your chest, that tells you "yeah, it's good".

Northwest Passage

Title: Northwest Passage
Author: Kryptaria
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock (switching), Mycroft, Molly
Warning: R, slash, PTSD ( John), mention of violence (John)
Length: Novella
Status: Completed

Seven years ago, Captain John Watson of the Canadian Forces Medical Service withdrew from society, seeking a simple, isolated life in the distant northern wilderness of Canada. Though he survives from one day to the next, he doesn't truly live until someone from his dark past calls in a favor and turns his world upside-down with the introduction of Sherlock Holmes.

At AO3

I don't know why I haven't read this before. I remember scrolling over it - and thinking that it sounded alright, but boring. But it isn't. This is a very intriguing story about loner John in the Canadian wilderness taking in Sherlock on Mycroft's request. The solitude and self-dependence needed to survive off major roads is depicted beautifully, and even if you don't like slash, this is worth a read: the scenery is fantastic. I haven't felt a setting coming to life this much for some time.
Sherlock's a bit OoC, but like I said - the scenery is overwhelming. I'd be out of character, too, if you threw me in there.

Impossible Loyalities

Title: Impossible Loyalities
Author: achray
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John/Sherlock, Lestrade, OC/Sherlock
Warning: R, slash, mention of drug abuse
Length: Short
Status: Completed

‘You were having sex with your tutor?’, John said, trying but doubtless failing not to sound either surprised or judgemental.

At AO3

This nicely introduces pre-series!Sherlock to the reader. While the story is told in the present, John is preoccupied with Sherlock's university time and 20ties. I like the way achray stressed that Sherlock distances himself from his past self while not being ashamed of it.

The Only True Lords

Title: The Only True Lords
Author: Lomonaaeren
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Harry, Draco, Snape
Warning: PG-13, bond, post-hogwarts, locked, injury(Zabini)
Length: Novella
Status: Ongoing

"The Lords of Elfland are true lords, the only true lords, the kind that do not exist on this earth: their lordship is the outward sign or symbol of real inward greatness.” Ursula K. Le Guin. Harry ends up accidentally bonding himself as Lord to several Slytherins after the Battle of Hogwarts, including Snape and Draco Malfoy. It’s a long journey from putting his foot in it all the time to at least trying to be a good one.

At AO3

Exactly what you expect from Lomonaaeren - tension. I like the Slytherins' views, e.g. Zabini who is disgusted by the thought of servitude, Draco who likes to feel safe, Goyle who doesn't want to take responsibility for himself, Pansy who sees a chance to seize,  and Snape who cares most about survival. Harry is a good mixture between politically verse  and a hint dark. Yes, potentially one of her best work.

Following On

Title: Following On
Author: Loopy456
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: John, Sherlock
Warning: PG, injury (John)
Length: Short
Status: Completed

‘Well,’ says Sherlock, throwing the empty bottle down into the foot well. ‘I did think I was going to die.’
‘You thought you were going to die?’ Donovan chokes out. ‘I knew you were a freak, but are you really so self-centred? I thought he was supposed to be your friend, and instead of worrying about him you’re worrying about yourself? Did you push him in front of you or something?’
When something happens to John, Sherlock doesn't understand why everyone's so surprised that he was worried for his own life.

At AO3

I like the second chapter's turnabout. Really, I was expecting something deeper but it still surprised me. I had expected a different, a psychological direction and got rewarded with this emotional revelation.

Under the Coat

Title: Under the Coat
Author: Loopy456
Fandom: Sherlock
Characters: Sherlock, John
Warning: PG-13, illness (eating disorder)
Length: Medium
Status: Completed

John knows what eating disorders look like. The thing is, he’d found nothing. There was nothing, nada, zero, absolutely no evidence for any kind of eating disorder. No anorexia, no bulimia, nothing. It lulled him into a false sense of security.
Sherlock always wears his coat, no matter what the weather or the season. Not that there's any particular reason for this, of course.

At AO3

This is a well-crafted eating disorder story. This is a very special topic, and not many authors manage  to do it well. Sherlock in here is very unsure. You see his arrogant side but I wouldn't call him IC. John, though, it perfect. His insight is rather intriguing. As a doctor, his duties contradict with those of a friend. His doubts and fears grab the reader's attention.
